HAUPPAUGE, NY (June 14, 2011) — Custom Computer Specialists announced today that fifteen high school seniors from throughout the Northeast are recipients of the 2011 Custom Computer Specialists Right Start Scholarship. The $1,000 cash award is presented for academic achievement and for standout essays that creatively answer the question: “Describe how technology has impacted your education so far and how you believe it will impact the future of K-12 education.” Custom Computer Specialists is one of the Northeast’s largest education information technology providers.
“Our future depends on furthering the education of today’s students, and technology has become a vital part of the overall learning experience. The intelligent, creative and mature responses from our scholarship program participants clearly displays how so many promising seniors understand and embrace the connection between technology and education,” explained Gregory Galdi, President of Custom Computer Specialists.
Responses to the essay question provided a broad range of ideas connecting the student’s future goals with descriptions of how technology has helped them succeed in high school. Long Island’s award recipients explained how they have witnessed a technology revolution in their schools since they began their educations. One recipient mentioned how the use of technology in today’s classrooms was a springboard to his chosen major in education and another explained how technology has helped him overcome his disability. Students also said the future will bring more interactivity with other students and more distance learning opportunities.
This is the second year of the Right Start Scholarship Program. More than 300 seniors applied for this year’s scholarship; winners were chosen by a panel of technology experts. The students, their parents and school district representatives were invited to award ceremonies that were held on June 16th.
